Join the initiative to bring Google Fiber to Newburyport!

Thank you for taking the first step by visiting this page.

BACKGROUND:
Google wants to build an ultra-high speed broadband network in
a handful of communities across the United States -- and Newburyport, Massachusetts hopes to be one of them.

Every household in the city with an internet connection is either served by cable modems from Comcast, or DSL from Verizon or DirecTV. Google aims to compete with all of them, offering only internet access and at a speed up to 100 times faster. There are many ideas what we can do with a faster speed, but because nobody has experienced such a fast connection, the best ideas have yet to be realized!

Please join Mayor Donna Holaday, the Newburyport City Council, the Newburyport School Department, the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Anna Jaques Hospital, PortMedia, and other individuals and organizations who have endorsed this initiative.

Here is a link to a video of a public hearing held March 1, and here is a resolution the City Council approved and signed March 15.

While few program details are known to us now, it is presumed the city would pay $0 and the only cost would be your optional monthly access fee.

Individuals, business employees, and community groups are asked to nominate the city; and information how to do that is provided below, with supporting information linked to the left. The deadline for all submissions is March 26 at 8PM local time!

Please follow the below steps to nominate Newburyport:

Step 1: If you don't have a GMail address,
please click here and sign up for a Google account.

This is a mandatory step for non-GMail users. It is FREE and takes 5 minutes. You will be asked to fill-in your current email address and other information to create your Google account. Your existing email address will be your new username, along with whatever password you decide.

Step 2: Use your GMail or Google account and click here to nominate Newburyport!

The form will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. While most of the form is optional, please try to submit as much as you can to increase the amount of shared data.

Step 3: Once you complete the form, please email us so
we can contact you later this year when Google says yes. Please include some reasons for nominating the city in your email. Thank you!
